ANGLES and PROPS
Metaplore Outsourced Product Development, Service Delivery Management and Centre of Excellence- BOT services There are angels and there are angles. Angles are props. And props are support. For any start-up, both angles and angels are important. In a country, where the environment for a start-up is more testing than elsewhere, and where every positive ying has a negative yang; and success is in spite of the system, the thirst for executing ideas and monetizing them is increasing more than ever. Today’s Economic Times, Harsimran Julka writes about how startups foster each other. The similarities in needs for affordability, speed with less overhead has prompted start-ups to explore and run with brethren who offer services in the areas of legal, HR, hosting, application development and support among others. The props or the angles, I had mentioned is exactly this support system as against the angels who provide capital support. But, as they say, Metaplore is already in the boat. We offer services and have standing customers in the areas of product development, service delivery management, building centers of excellence on a particular skill and running Build-Operate-Transfer services for both ‘functional’ portals and IT start-ups. Some of them have moved on and some have stayed with in terms of using our services – as they see a strong ROI even at a more mature stage of growth. From building portals, to setting up teams and managing them, from building strong delivery teams, Metaplore has been a partner for these start-up’s initial journey to success. In one case, we have aligned a portion of our fee to the success of the portal – from a complete outsourcing of product development. In another case, we have only charged a leverage fee, which allows the start-up to use our infrastructure and put their own resources, while the delivery management is done by us. In another case, we are delivering based on service levels, while the start-up is focusing on building business with its European customers. Here, the model is a mix of retainer and a risk-reward price. There are some instances, where building a new skill set is a big challenge – as it purely depends on the leader’s ability – while the management sees the business as a potential opportunity, the failure of delivery to meet customers’ expectations can be a risk. In these cases, some of our customers has leveraged our ‘Center of Excellence practice’ to create a strong and dependable delivery team. This has helped customer have peace of mind and confidence, at the same time achieve revenue targets in the new avenue. Here Metaplore goes to the extent of managing the Profit and Loss of the Centre of Excellence, which includes reviewing sales teams performance on closing deals in the identified revenue stream. Our ability to focus on our partner’s success milestones has made us a preferred partner with our customers. And our experience is that, if the mind of the entrepreneur is freed to focus on the core business, the probability of success is more.
